7 SEO Myths Uncovered

seo
As the world becomes more and more connected over the web, it is critical for businesses and organizations to keep up and maintain their online presence. Search engine optimization (SEO) is the art of understanding search engines and the key to maximum visibility online.  A good SEO strategy can ensure prominent exposure for your website.

Still a relatively new marketing strategy component, SEO still baffles the average business owner.  Add to that all the recent changes to Google’s ranking algorithm and we have absolute confusion.  Learn about 7 SEO myths that may be keeping you from climbing up the ranks on search engines.

1. Old Strategies are the Only Strategies
Although we generally recommend sticking with time-tested strategies, SEO is a fast-changing discipline.  As such, we cannot solely rely on what was working a few years back.  Just recently, Google updated its ranking algorithm and sent hundreds of websites down the tubes demonstrating just how fast things can change.  While old strategies can serve as guidance, it’s important to keep up with the latest trends and changes in the industry to accurately manage your SEO.

2. AdWords Campaigns Boost SEO
Contrary to what you may think, Google AdWords campaign has no impact on your SEO.  Having a PPC campaign does not have an effect on your SEO.  However, a solid SEO strategy (build around solid, relevant content) and a good SEO ranking can help you PPC campaign.

3. All You Need is a Blog
While blogging is a good way to improve your SEO ranking, it’s not just the act of blogging that is useful.  It’s what you are blogging about that matters.  Blogging about topics completely irrelevant to your business or website content will have no impact on your SEO.  If you’re blogging, make sure you incorporate your target keywords and create relevant content around them.

4. More Links = Better SEO
More is better.  At least that’s what you may think when it comes to link.  However, this is not always the case for backlinks.  Rather than focusing on the quantity of your links, focus on their quality.  The better quality links you have, the better your SEO ranking.

5. On-Site Optimization Doesn’t Matter
Although off-site optimization usually requires a long-term commitment, on-site is equally important.  Proper meta titles, descriptions, tags and labels are necessary to help search engine robots crawl and understand the content and subject matter of your website.

6. SEO Is a One-time Deal
This is perhaps the biggest myth of SEO.  Far from being a one-time deal, SEO is a long-term strategy that requires commitment and dedication.  From adding keyword-rich content to acquiring quality links, SEO is never done.  Reaching the elusive top position also does not guarantee that you will forever be in that spot.

7. SEO Firms Can Guarantee 1st Page Results
If an SEO company tells you that they can guarantee you top rank on search engine results page (SERP), you should walk away.  Not only is this very difficult, Google and search engines in general frown upon SEO companies that guarantee such results.

SEO, a search engine marketing component, is an ever-changing discipline that requires constant monitoring and refining.  Understanding how SEO really works and debunking common myths is an important part of reaching your online marketing potential.
